Job Summary
A global provider of advanced security and inspection systems is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and collaborative Engineering Project Manager to join its Product Engineering team. The organization develops cutting-edge solutions used for screening baggage, cargo, vehicles, and people across industries such as transportation, government, and critical infrastructure.
The Engineering Project Manager will lead a range of engineering development projects, including advanced component technologies, new product development, and enhancements to existing products. This role combines technical expertise with managerial responsibility, overseeing design and development activities from concept through production. Responsibilities include defining requirements, developing technical specifications, building prototypes, and supporting production transfer.
The successful candidate will operate in a cross-functional environment, guiding and mentoring engineers and scientists while ensuring projects meet schedule, cost, and quality targets. This role also involves exploring new processes and applying advanced engineering methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans aligned with timelines, budgets, and scope
- Define work packages, allocate resources, and manage project budgets
- Execute projects from initiation through delivery
- Monitor project scope and manage changes, assessing impacts on schedule, cost, and quality
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with technical teams, stakeholders, and vendors
- Define roles and responsibilities across project teams
- Promote an inclusive and high-performing team environment
Risk Mitigation and Quality Assurance
- Identify, assess, and proactively manage project and operational risks
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives and best practices
- Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout project execution
Supplier and Vendor Management
- Manage supplier relationships, vendor selection, and contract negotiations
- Oversee maintenance, support agreements, and renewals
Travel
- Occasional travel to project sites, vendor locations, or customer installations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, software, or systems engineering)
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in project management
- Relevant project management certifications (e.g., CAPM, PMP, MPM, PRINCE2)
- Proven track record of delivering technology-focused projects on time, within budget, and meeting performance targets
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in solving complex engineering challenges
- Strong understanding of gated product development life cycles
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Skilled in project budgeting, estimation, and financial tracking
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects of varying complexity
- Familiarity with software, electrical, and mechanical design principles
- Knowledge of international testing and compliance standards (e.g., ETL, CE, UL, UKCA, CSA)
- Experience with Agile product management practices and BOM structuring tools
- Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, OnePlan, Jira, and Confluence
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field
- Experience managing engineering projects involving embedded systems in regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, aviation security, medical, transportation)
- Experience in product or component design within regulated environments
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to drive technical and program decisions
- Familiarity with Microsoft DevOps tools
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills
- Commitment to continuous improvement and collaborative teamwork
