Position: Planning Manager

Position purpose:

The Planning Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the overall production planning and scheduling processes for our plastic injection moulding operations. This role ensures the efficient flow of materials, optimal utilization of machinery and manpower, and timely delivery of high-quality products to meet customer demands. The Planning Manager will collaborate closely with various departments including Production, Sales, Purchasing, Quality, and Maintenance to achieve production targets and optimize operational efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

• Production Planning & Scheduling: 
  • Develop and maintain detailed production schedules based on sales forecasts, customer orders, and capacity constraints.
  • Create daily, weekly, and monthly production plans for injection moulding machines, assembly lines, and other related processes.
  • Monitor and adjust production schedules in response to changes in demand, material availability, equipment downtime, and other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Optimize machine utilization and production efficiency to minimize lead times and maximize output.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of resources (materials, manpower, equipment) to meet production targets.
• Material Planning & Inventory Management: 
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing department to forecast material requirements based on production plans.
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, components, and finished goods to ensure adequate supply while minimizing holding costs.
  • Track material consumption and identify potential shortages or excesses.
  • Participate in inventory audits and reconciliation processes.
• Capacity Planning & Resource Allocation: 
  • Analyze production capacity and identify potential bottlenecks.
  • Develop strategies to optimize capacity utilization and improve overall efficiency.
  • Work with the Maintenance department to schedule preventative maintenance and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Allocate manpower effectively across different production areas to meet scheduling demands.
• Communication & Coordination: 
  • Communicate production plans and schedules clearly to relevant departments (Production Supervisors, Operators, Sales, Customer Service).
  • Coordinate with Sales and Customer Service to understand customer requirements and delivery expectations.
  • Liaise with the Purchasing department regarding material availability and lead times.
  • Collaborate with the Quality department to address any production-related quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the Warehouse and Logistics teams to ensure timely and accurate shipment of finished goods.
• Performance Monitoring & Reporting: 
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, production output, machine utilization, and material consumption.
  • Prepare regular reports on production performance, highlighting any deviations from the plan and proposing solutions.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement initiatives to enhance planning efficiency and overall productivity.
• System Implementation & Management: 
  • Utilize and maintain the company's ERP/MRP system for production planning, scheduling, and inventory management.
  • Contribute to the implementation and optimization of new planning tools and systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity within the planning system.
• Team Leadership & Development : 
  • Supervise and mentor planning staff, providing guidance and support.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and ensure team members understand their responsibilities.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment within the planning team.
• Compliance & Safety: 
  • Ensure all planning activities comply with relevant safety regulations and company policies.
  • Promote a safe and efficient working environment.

Qualifications /Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies

• Basic knowledge on Plastic Injection Molding Process
• Bachelor's degree in ISupply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in production planning and scheduling within a manufacturing environment, specifically within plastic injection moulding.
• Strong understanding of plastic injection moulding processes, materials, and equipment.
• Proficiency in using ERP/MRP systems for production planning and inventory management.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.  
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is an advantage.
• Experience with demand forecasting techniques is a plus.
