Mechanical Engineer (Bus Body Building / Vehicle Integration)

Position: Mechanical Engineer

Location: Senai, Johor Darul Ta'zim

Employment Type: Full-Time (On-site)

Working Hours: Monday – Friday (Standard Office Hours)

Salary Range: RM 4,500 – RM 6,500

Position Overview

Sun Bus Tech Sdn Bhd is looking for an innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our core engineering team. In this position, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical systems, body structures, and assembly components for commercial buses and coaches. Working closely with production, quality assurance, and procurement teams, you will ensure all vehicle structural designs meet strict safety standards, client specifications, and manufacturing feasibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Development: Create detailed 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models for bus chassis, body structures, interior layouts, and mechanical sub-assemblies.

• Production Support & Implementation: Collaborate with floor supervisors and technicians to oversee design implementation, structural assembly, and prototyping, troubleshooting mechanical issues on the line.

• Testing & Quality Assurance: Conduct structural strength calculations, weight distribution analyses, and material stress tests to ensure compliance with Road Transport Department (JPJ) regulations and international safety standards.

• Design Optimization: Evaluate existing body-building processes to implement design improvements that reduce vehicle weight, enhance durability, and minimize production costs.

• Documentation & BOM: Prepare comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM), engineering change notices (ECN), and technical documentation for manufacturing execution.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on design or engineering experience, ideally within bus body building, automotive manufacturing, commercial vehicles, or structural steel fabrication.

• Core Competencies:

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

  • Good understanding of sheet metal fabrication, welding techniques, structural vehicle mechanics, and material selection.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills on the production floor.

  • Strong project management abilities and high attention to engineering precision.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
