Account Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Account Manager to manage key customer accounts and build long-term business relationships within the oil, gas, petrochemical, logistics, or terminal operations industry.

The successful candidate will act as the primary commercial contact for customers, coordinating with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery, contract administration, operational support, and customer satisfaction. This role also supports sales growth, commercial planning, compliance initiatives, and continuous process improvements.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Account Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers and key stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for commercial enquiries, requests, and issue resolution.
  • Manage customer accounts to ensure high levels of service, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Support customer onboarding, account maintenance, and contract execution.

Commercial Operations

  • Administer day-to-day commercial activities, including preparing quotations, reports, presentations, and business correspondence.
  • Manage commercial contracts and maintain accurate customer records using CRM or other commercial management systems.
  • Monitor customer transactions and ensure accurate commercial documentation.
  • Prepare monthly commercial reports and performance analyses.

Contract & Database Management

  • Maintain customer contracts and ensure timely updates within CRM platforms.
  • Develop and maintain commercial databases, including throughput statistics, storage utilization, occupancy reports, and customer performance metrics.
  • Ensure commercial data integrity and reporting accuracy.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with Finance on billing, invoicing, payment follow-up, and customer account matters.
  • Work with Operations and Customer Service teams to support logistics planning, tank allocation, scheduling, and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering teams to minimize operational disruptions during maintenance activities.
  • Liaise with Safety and Compliance teams to ensure commercial activities comply with company standards.

Sales & Business Development Support

  • Support the execution of sales and marketing strategies.
  • Assist in preparing commercial proposals and contract negotiations.
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute market intelligence.
  • Participate in customer visits, exhibitions, conferences, and networking events.

Commercial Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, industry regulations, sanctions requirements, and internal commercial procedures.
  • Support ISO management systems and quality compliance initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing documentation required for regulatory approvals and commercial licensing activities.

Reporting & Performance Analysis

  • Prepare regular commercial reports, sales performance analyses, and customer activity summaries.
  • Monitor key commercial KPIs and recommend process improvements.
  • Support budget preparation, sales forecasting, and commercial planning activities.

Continuous Improvement & Projects

  • Participate in commercial improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects.
  • Support digitalization and implementation of commercial management systems.
  • Assist with special assignments and strategic commercial initiatives as required.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely administration of commercial and contract management activities.
  • High customer satisfaction and effective complaint resolution.
  • Accurate commercial reporting and database management.
  • Efficient coordination between commercial and operational teams.
  • Compliance with contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Achievement of sales support and customer retention objectives.
  • Effective collection and monitoring of customer receivables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, Marketing, Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualifications related to commercial management or supply chain are an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial operations, account management, sales support, or customer relationship management.
  • Experience in the petroleum, petrochemical, oil & gas, terminal operations, logistics, shipping, or supply chain industries is highly preferred.
  • Experience managing customer accounts and commercial contracts.
  • Exposure to CRM systems and commercial databases is an advantage.
  • Experience leading improvement initiatives or commercial projects is a plus.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong customer relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial contract administration.
  • Understanding of logistics, storage terminals, shipping, warehousing, or supply chain operations.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements within industrial operations is advantageous.

  • Willingness to travel frequently within Malaysia and occasionally internationally as required.
  • Able to travel at short notice when necessary.

Working Environment

  • Fast-paced commercial environment supporting industrial operations.
  • Frequent interaction with customers, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders.
  • May be required to respond to urgent customer or operational matters outside normal working hours, including weekends or public holidays when necessary.
