Maintenance Technician (Electrical & Instrumentation)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician (Electrical & Instrumentation) to support the maintenance, repair, and optimization of manufacturing equipment and facility systems. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical and instrumentation systems while supporting overall plant performance.

The successful candidate will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, maintain regulatory compliance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Experience in regulated manufacturing environments such as food, pharmaceutical, or chemical industries is highly preferred.


Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Reliability

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment, utilities, and facility systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control system failures to minimize production downtime.
  • Repair or replace faulty electrical and instrumentation components and support mechanical maintenance activities when required.
  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, calibration, and servicing of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain and improve equipment reliability through systematic maintenance practices.

Manufacturing Support

  • Support production operations by ensuring equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
  • Guide and assist production personnel in dismantling machinery and equipment for cleaning and reassembly while maintaining cleanliness and contamination control standards.
  • Ensure special manufacturing equipment is maintained in compliance with applicable safety requirements.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production support requests.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, preventive maintenance schedules, calibration records, work orders, and repair documentation.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with:
    • Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
    • ISO procedures
    • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies
    • Halal requirements (where applicable)
    • Regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing required maintenance documentation.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and safe work practices.
  • Support EHS initiatives, including safety documentation, permit control, access management, and emergency response activities.
  • Promote a safe working environment by identifying and reporting potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and industry best practices.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement maintenance improvements that enhance productivity and equipment uptime.

Contractor & Engineering Support

  • Coordinate and supervise contractors performing maintenance work to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Support engineering projects, equipment installations, modifications, and commissioning activities.
  • Perform additional engineering and maintenance duties as assigned.

Key Performance Expectations

Within the First 3 Months

  • Gain a thorough understanding of company maintenance procedures, safety standards, and operating practices.
  • Perform maintenance tasks under supervision.
  • Become familiar with plant equipment and maintenance systems.

Within the First 6 Months

  • Independently perform routine maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate competency in preventive maintenance and documentation.

Within the First 12 Months

  • Independently diagnose and resolve electrical and instrumentation issues.
  • Identify and implement equipment and process improvements.
  • Support engineering activities and cross-functional maintenance projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support across departments when required.

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Electronic Engineering
    • Instrumentation & Control
    • Mechatronics
    • or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience within regulated industries such as food, pharmaceutical, chemical, or similar manufacturing environments is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with automation systems, including:
    • PLC
    • SCADA
    • Process control systems
      will be a strong advantage.

Certification

  • Valid Chargeman Certification recognized by Suruhanjaya Tenaga is required.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of electrical maintenance and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, control, and automation equipment.
  • Understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with calibration, process instrumentation, and manufacturing utilities.
  • Knowledge of GMP, ISO management systems, HSE, and regulatory compliance.

  • Good communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically fit to perform maintenance work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to work shifts or be on standby when operational requirements demand.
