Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Merchandising Manager to oversee purchasing, merchandising, inventory planning, and supplier management for a multi-outlet retail business. This role is responsible for ensuring product availability, optimizing inventory levels, negotiating with suppliers, and driving cost efficiencies while supporting overall business growth.
The ideal candidate possesses strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation skills, and proven experience managing merchandise across multiple retail outlets.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Inventory Management

Manage daily purchasing activities for retail outlets and the central warehouse.

Ensure timely procurement and replenishment of merchandise to maintain optimal stock availability.

Source both trade and non-trade products and materials at competitive prices while maintaining quality standards.

Monitor inventory levels and implement strategies to minimize stock shortages, overstocking, and inventory obsolescence.

Collaborate closely with operations and warehouse teams on inventory planning, stock allocation, and replenishment strategies.

Develop, implement, and maintain effective outlet planograms to maximize product visibility and sales performance.
Supplier Management

Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers to support business requirements.

Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with suppliers and business partners.

Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, rebates, and promotional support to achieve favorable business outcomes.

Monitor supplier performance in terms of pricing, product quality, delivery schedules, and service levels.

Resolve supply issues, delivery delays, and product-related concerns promptly.
Cost Optimization

Drive cost-saving initiatives through effective sourcing, supplier negotiations, and process improvements.

Analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supplier performance to identify purchasing opportunities.

Continuously improve procurement efficiency while maintaining product quality and service standards.
Reporting & Compliance

Prepare regular purchasing reports, inventory analyses, and cost performance reports.

Monitor purchasing KPIs and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

Ensure procurement activities comply with internal policies, procedures, and governance requirements.

Maintain accurate purchasing records and support audit and compliance activities.
Team Leadership

Lead, coach, and develop the purchasing and merchandising team.

Monitor team performance, workload, and productivity to ensure departmental objectives are achieved.

Establish, review, and improve purchasing and merchandising standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Foster collaboration across departments to support business objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
-
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Merchandising, Retail Management, or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing, merchandising, or supply chain management within a multi-outlet retail environment.

Experience managing merchandise categories such as grocery, household products, fresh products, or general merchandise is highly preferred.

Strong negotiation, supplier management, and contract administration skills.

Good understanding of retail margins, rebates, trade agreements, promotional support, and category management.

Hands-on experience in inventory planning, demand forecasting, replenishment, and stock control.

Proven track record of identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving procurement efficiency.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, and ERP or inventory management systems.

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced retail environment.
