Position Summary
The Director of Sales is responsible for developing and executing the organization's sales strategy to achieve sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion. This role provides strategic leadership to the sales function by driving business development, strengthening customer relationships, and building a high-performing sales team.
The position is also designed as a succession role for future leadership of the overall Sales & Marketing function. The successful candidate will progressively assume broader commercial responsibilities, including marketing strategy, brand development, customer acquisition, and go-to-market execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth

Develop and implement annual and long-term sales strategies aligned with business objectives.

Drive revenue growth, profitability, and market share expansion.

Identify new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and emerging markets.

Prepare sales forecasts, budgets, and performance targets.

Monitor industry trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to identify growth opportunities.
2. Sales Leadership & Team Management

Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing sales team.

Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

Recruit, coach, mentor, and retain top sales talent.

Establish individual and team KPIs with clear performance expectations.

Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and succession planning.
3. Key Account & Customer Relationship Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and strategic business partners.

Lead commercial negotiations for major contracts and business agreements.
-
Ensure high customer satisfaction, retention, and long-term account growth.
-
Resolve critical customer issues and support escalation management where required.
4. Commercial Performance Management

Oversee sales pipeline management and forecasting accuracy.

Monitor sales productivity, conversion rates, and performance metrics.

Improve sales processes, CRM utilization, and reporting capabilities.

Develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness and profitability.

Ensure compliance with internal sales governance and commercial policies.
5. Business Development & Market Expansion

Identify and evaluate new market segments, products, and business opportunities.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support commercial growth initiatives.

Develop strategic partnerships, distribution channels, and alliances where appropriate.

Provide market intelligence and customer insights to support business decision-making.
6. Sales & Marketing Leadership Development
As part of the succession pathway toward leading the integrated Sales & Marketing function, the incumbent will progressively:

Contribute to the development of integrated commercial strategies.

Collaborate with marketing teams to align lead generation and revenue conversion activities.

Support branding, market positioning, customer engagement, and awareness initiatives.

Participate in annual commercial planning and budgeting.

Take increasing ownership of customer acquisition, marketing effectiveness, and market expansion strategies.

Develop the leadership capabilities required to oversee a fully integrated Sales & Marketing organization.

Qualifications
Education
-
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Commerce, or a related field.

MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
Experience
-
Minimum 12–15 years of progressive experience in sales and commercial leadership.

Proven track record of achieving and exceeding revenue growth targets.
-
At least 5 years of experience leading and developing high-performing sales teams.
-
Strong experience managing strategic customer relationships and complex commercial negotiations.
-
Exposure to marketing strategy, business development, and go-to-market planning is highly desirable.

Experience driving organizational growth and market expansion is an added advantage.
