Injection Moulding Engineer

Job Summary

The Injection Moulding Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and controlling injection moulding processes to ensure maximum production efficiency, product quality, and operational reliability. This role plays a critical part in process development, troubleshooting, new product introduction (NPI), tooling management, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and manufacturing standards. The position also provides technical leadership and guidance to production personnel to support overall manufacturing excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Optimization

• Develop, establish, validate, and maintain optimal injection moulding process parameters to achieve consistent product quality, maximum yield, and reduced cycle times.

• Apply scientific molding principles to optimize machine settings, process capability, and manufacturing efficiency.

• Monitor and analyze process performance, machine utilization, scrap rates, and production output to identify improvement opportunities.

• Drive process standardization and best practices across manufacturing operations.

Troubleshooting & Quality Improvement

• Investigate and resolve molding defects including short shots, flash, sink marks, burn marks, weld lines, warpage, dimensional deviations, and cosmetic issues.

• Perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring process problems.

• Work closely with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to ensure compliance with customer specifications and product requirements.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, scrap, and production downtime.

Tooling & Equipment Management

• Coordinate mold installation, setup, sampling, validation, and production startup activities.

• Evaluate mold performance and recommend improvements to enhance product quality and process stability.

• Collaborate with toolmakers, maintenance teams, and external vendors regarding mold repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance programs.

• Monitor machine performance and ensure molding equipment operates efficiently and safely.

New Product Introduction (NPI)

• Support product feasibility reviews, design for manufacturability (DFM), and process development activities for new projects.

• Participate in mold trials, first article evaluations, and production validation activities.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Quality, and Production teams to ensure successful product launches and production readiness.

• Support PPAP, FAI, process validation, and customer qualification requirements where applicable.

Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain process sheets, setup instructions, machine parameter records, troubleshooting guides, and work instructions.

• Ensure all process documentation is accurate, controlled, and updated according to company requirements.

• Support compliance with ISO standards, customer requirements, quality systems, and workplace safety regulations.

• Participate in internal audits, customer audits, and process reviews when required.

Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

• Lead Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and cost reduction initiatives to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

• Identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, material consumption, energy usage, and manufacturing costs.

• Analyze production data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive process improvements and operational efficiency.

• Support automation and productivity enhancement projects where applicable.

Technical Leadership & Training

• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and hands-on training to Moulding Technicians, Process Technicians, and Production Operators.

• Develop troubleshooting capabilities and process knowledge within the production team.

• Support workforce development initiatives and promote a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve production, quality, and business objectives.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Injection Moulding Process Engineering within a manufacturing environment.

• Strong knowledge of thermoplastic materials, polymer behavior, molding technologies, and scientific molding methodologies.

• Experience with hydraulic, hybrid, and electric injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment.

• Proven experience in troubleshooting molding defects and process optimization.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, product specifications, and technical documentation.

• Familiarity with mold design principles, mold maintenance requirements, and tooling management.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills.

• Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management abilities.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and manufacturing reporting systems.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Moldflow, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other molding simulation and CAD software.

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, FMEA, MSA, and other continuous improvement methodologies.

• Experience supporting automotive, medical device, electronics, consumer products, or precision plastics manufacturing industries.

• Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, or equivalent quality management systems.

• Experience with automation integration, robotic part handling systems, and Industry 4.0 manufacturing initiatives.
