Tool Setter

Job Summary

The Tool Setter is responsible for setting up, installing, adjusting, and maintaining tooling on stamping presses to ensure efficient production operations, product quality, and equipment reliability. This role plays a critical part in supporting production targets by ensuring tooling is correctly installed, optimized, and maintained for smooth manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, install, and change tooling, dies, fixtures, and related components on stamping presses according to production schedules, work orders, and technical specifications.
  • Prepare and complete tooling setup documentation, including setup forms and machine parameter records, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensure proper alignment, assembly, calibration, and adjustment of tooling to achieve required product specifications and process stability.
  • Perform first-piece verification and support production startup activities to ensure products meet quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling, machine, and process-related issues during production to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
  • Perform dimensional adjustments and machine fine-tuning based on engineering drawings, inspection results, and quality requirements.
  • Load and unload tooling safely before and after maintenance, repair, modification, or production runs.
  • Optimize machine settings and tooling conditions to improve production efficiency, cycle times, product quality, and equipment performance.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Control personnel to verify tooling performance and support inspection activities.
  • Work with Production, Tool Room, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality teams to ensure smooth production operations and timely issue resolution.
  • Monitor tooling condition and report any abnormal wear, damage, or maintenance requirements to the appropriate personnel.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities and assist in tooling improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and longevity.
  • Maintain accurate setup records, tooling logs, and production documentation.
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during tooling setup and machine operation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by management from time to time.

Job Requirements

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Technical Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Tool & Die Technology, Precision Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in tooling setup, press setup, metal stamping, tool room operations, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with high-speed stamping presses and progressive dies is an advantage.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tooling specifications, and dimensional requirements.
  • Knowledge of stamping processes, die setup procedures, and machine adjustments.
  • Familiarity with measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and related inspection tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and hands-on technical abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and process accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a production team environment.
  • Willingness to support shift operations, overtime, or urgent production requirements when necessary.
