Tool Maker
Job Summary
The Tool Maker is responsible for the assembly, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of production tooling, molds, fixtures, and related equipment to ensure optimal manufacturing performance. This role supports production operations by maintaining tooling reliability, minimizing downtime, and ensuring tooling readiness to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Tooling Supervisor, Tooling Manager, or designated superior.
- Support troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of tooling used in production to ensure continuous manufacturing operations.
- Coordinate tooling trials, testing, and validation activities according to production schedules and project timelines.
- Assist in the assembly, fitting, debugging, modification, and optimization of new tooling, molds, fixtures, and production equipment.
- Collaborate closely with Production and Quality teams to investigate and resolve tooling-related quality and process issues.
- Monitor tooling performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, durability, and product quality.
- Plan and coordinate the procurement of tooling spare parts and consumables to prevent unexpected downtime and production interruptions.
- Work closely with Tooling Designers, Engineers, and Machinists on the fabrication, modification, and repair of tooling components, fixtures, and spare parts.
- Maintain accurate tooling records, including preventive maintenance schedules, repair histories, tooling inventories, and service reports.
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM) and periodic maintenance activities according to established maintenance schedules.
- Ensure tooling is serviced, repaired, and returned to production within required timelines.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving tooling reliability, productivity, and cost efficiency.
- Adhere to workplace safety requirements, quality standards, and operational procedures.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by management from time to time.
Job Requirements
- Certificate, Diploma, or Technical Qualification in Tool & Die Making, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Precision Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in tool making, mold maintenance, tool room operations, machining, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Experience with tooling assembly, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting is preferred.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tooling designs, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of machining processes such as milling, grinding, turning, EDM, or CNC machining is an advantage.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems and tooling lifecycle management.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on workmanship and quality.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Able to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to support urgent tooling repairs and production requirements when necessary.
