Metrologist
Job Responsibilities
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to determine appropriate measurement and testing methods for new and existing products.
- Develop, establish, and maintain Measurement Standard Operating Procedures (MSOPs) for New Product Introduction (NPI) and production parts.
- Provide training and technical guidance to Technicians, Inspectors, and Quality personnel on the proper use of measurement and testing equipment, as well as established inspection procedures.
- Manage calibration activities and ensure all measuring and testing equipment are maintained in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements and calibration schedules.
- Design, develop, and fabricate inspection fixtures, gauges, and jigs to support measurement and testing activities.
- Evaluate, source, and recommend new metrology and testing equipment to improve measurement capability and efficiency.
- Perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R) studies and correlation studies with internal teams and customers.
- Conduct First Article (FA) inspections and dimensional validation for new and revised products.
- Program, operate, and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and Optical Measuring Machines (OMM) for dimensional inspection and analysis.
- Analyze measurement data and prepare inspection reports to support quality, engineering, and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Tooling teams to resolve dimensional and measurement-related issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance measurement accuracy, inspection efficiency, and process capability.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of working experience in metrology, dimensional inspection, quality engineering, or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Hands-on experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and Optical Measuring Machines (OMM), including programming and operation.
- Familiarity with Measurement System Analysis (MSA), GR&R studies, calibration systems, and dimensional inspection methodologies.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 17025, or other quality management systems is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to measurement accuracy and quality standards.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and inspection reporting tools.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
