Job Summary
Responsible for managing the inventory, control, tracking, and movement of reinforcement steel and related materials within the rebar yard. The Material Control Officer ensures accurate stock records, supports production requirements, maintains material traceability, and coordinates with procurement, production, and quality teams to ensure uninterrupted operations and compliance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Material Planning, Execution & Coordination
-
Update daily reinforcement consumption data, including cut-and-bend bars, standard length rebars, welded wire mesh, and short-length materials, into the ERP or inventory management system.

Monitor and record daily material consumption, wastage, scrap generation, and additional material usage.

Verify supporting documentation for additional material requests and ensure compliance with established procedures.

Process and fulfil material requests from production, fabrication, and project teams.
-
Track material issues, transfers, returns, and scrap movements while maintaining accurate inventory balances.

Analyze material consumption trends and identify opportunities to reduce wastage and improve inventory utilization.
2. Team Coordination & Workforce Management
-
Coordinate daily material movement and consumption reporting with the Rebar Yard Supervisor.
-
Support operational planning and material availability for fabrication and production activities.
-
Assist in coordinating manpower activities related to material handling and stock control.
3. Quality Control & Compliance
-
Ensure all reinforcement materials meet approved project specifications and quality requirements.
-
Maintain material certificates, mill certificates, test reports, and traceability records.
-
Support internal audits, external audits, and client inspections related to inventory control and material management.
-
Ensure compliance with project, quality management, and traceability requirements.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
-
Liaise with Procurement personnel regarding purchase orders, delivery schedules, and supplier performance.
-
Coordinate with Production Engineers and Supervisors to ensure material availability aligns with fabrication and production schedules.
-
Work closely with QA/QC teams regarding material certification and compliance requirements.
-
Communicate inventory status and potential shortages to relevant stakeholders.
5. Inventory & Resource Management
-
Maintain accurate and real-time inventory records within ERP systems such as SAP or equivalent.
-
Conduct regular stock counts, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliations.
-
Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies promptly.
-
Monitor minimum and maximum stock levels and initiate replenishment requests when required.
-
Verify incoming reinforcement deliveries against purchase orders, material specifications, quantities, weights, grades, and certifications.
-
Coordinate unloading, storage, and placement of materials within designated yard locations.
-
Ensure proper storage and preservation of reinforcement materials.
6. Troubleshooting & Operational Support
-
Identify inventory, material flow, and yard operation bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
-
Investigate stock discrepancies, material shortages, and operational issues.
-
Escalate significant issues to management and support resolution efforts.
-
Contribute to process improvements that enhance inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
7. Health, Safety & Housekeeping
-
Ensure compliance with workplace health, safety, and environmental requirements.
-
Conduct regular safety inspections and support safety awareness initiatives.
-
Participate in toolbox talks, safety audits, and corrective action programs.
-
Ensure personnel utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
-
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safe material storage within the rebar yard.
8. Reporting, Documentation & Continuous Improvement
-
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory reports and material movement summaries.
-
Monitor stock variances, aging materials, excess inventory, and potential material shortages.
-
Maintain accurate documentation and inventory records.
-
Recommend process improvements to optimize material flow, storage efficiency, and inventory control.
-
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to yard operations and material management.
9. Training & Development
-
Support the development and training of yard personnel in inventory management and material handling procedures.
-
Promote best practices in stock control, traceability, and workplace safety.
-
Assist in developing operational competency within the rebar yard team.
10. Other Duties
-
Perform additional responsibilities assigned by management from time to time.
-
Responsibilities may be revised based on operational and project requirements.
Requirements
Education
-
Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Construction, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline.
Experience
-
Minimum 1 year of experience in precast concrete manufacturing, rebar yard operations, inventory control, warehouse management, or material coordination.
-
Experience handling reinforcement steel materials and construction-related inventory is an advantage.
Technical Knowledge
-
Basic understanding of reinforcement steel products, fabrication processes, and construction material management.

Knowledge of inventory management principles and stock control procedures.
-
Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or equivalent.
-
Understanding of material traceability, quality documentation, and certification requirements.
