Position Overview
The Group Chief Engineer provides strategic and operational leadership for all engineering, maintenance, and facilities management functions across a multi-property hospitality and leisure portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring the long-term reliability, safety, efficiency, and sustainability of all physical assets, infrastructure, and utility systems while leading a multidisciplinary engineering team to support exceptional operational performance and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Asset & Facilities Management

Provide strategic oversight of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), HVAC, structural, and utility infrastructure across multiple hospitality and leisure properties.

Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs for guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities, recreational amenities, and other operational assets.

Develop, implement, and continuously improve Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) programmes to maximise equipment reliability and minimise operational downtime.

Ensure engineering systems such as chiller plants, cooling systems, lifts, fire protection systems, kitchen equipment, laundry facilities, swimming pools, and other critical assets operate safely and efficiently.

Monitor the overall condition of facilities and establish long-term maintenance strategies to preserve asset value.
Refurbishment & Capital Projects

Lead the planning, budgeting, execution, and monitoring of refurbishment, renovation, and capital improvement projects.

Coordinate with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to quality standards.

Develop and maintain a rolling 3–5-year Capital Expenditure (CapEx) plan aligned with business objectives, operational requirements, and asset lifecycle management.

Ensure all project documentation, permits, warranties, and compliance records are properly maintained.
Energy Management & Sustainability

Monitor and optimise energy, water, and utility consumption across all facilities.

Develop and implement energy-saving initiatives, environmental sustainability programmes, and resource conservation strategies.

Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend energy-efficient solutions to improve operational performance.

Prepare regular utility consumption reports, analyse variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all applicable engineering regulations, occupational safety requirements, fire safety legislation, environmental regulations, and local authority requirements.

Maintain all statutory inspections, certifications, licences, and maintenance records for regulated equipment and facilities.

Lead emergency preparedness planning and engineering response procedures for incidents such as power failures, flooding, fire, and other facility-related emergencies.

Promote a strong culture of workplace safety, preventive maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
Leadership & Team Development

Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to Engineering Managers, Chief Engineers, supervisors, and technical teams.

Establish departmental goals, performance metrics, and succession planning initiatives.

Conduct regular performance evaluations and identify training and development opportunities.

Manage workforce planning, staffing requirements, scheduling, and departmental productivity.
Financial & Vendor Management
-
Develop and manage the annual engineering operating budget and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) budget.

Monitor departmental expenditures and implement cost-control initiatives without compromising operational standards.

Oversee procurement activities, engineering service contracts, and vendor performance.
-
Evaluate contractors and suppliers to ensure quality, compliance, and value for money.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
-
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
-
Professional engineering certification or registration is highly desirable.
Experience
-
Minimum 8 years of engineering or facilities management experience.
-
At least 4 years in a senior engineering leadership role within hospitality, integrated resorts, commercial property, mixed-use developments, or other large-scale facilities.

Experience managing diverse hospitality or leisure facilities is advantageous.
Project Management

Proven experience managing major refurbishment, renovation, infrastructure, and CapEx projects from planning through completion.
Regulatory Knowledge

Strong knowledge of occupational safety regulations, fire safety standards, engineering compliance requirements, environmental legislation, and statutory inspections applicable within the operating jurisdiction.
Leadership

Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple locations while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Language
-
Proficiency in English and the local business language.
